Jorge Oteiza’s dynamic sculpture”, a book that reproduces and analyses the text of the lecture, “Dynamic sculpture” written by Oteiza in 1953, together with an analytical study of this text by Anna Maria Guasch, lecturer in the History of Modern Art at Barcelona University.
This publication is the 5th in the series of “Oteiza Museum Notebooks”, and is published in versions in both Spanish and Basque. It includes on the one hand, a reproduction of Jorge Oteiza’s typewritten original text, “Dynamic Sculpture”, that the author wrote for the lecture he gave at the 1st International Congress of Abstract Art, held at the Palacio de la Magdalena University in Santander in August 1953 which includes original notes by its author. On the other hand, the publication is rounded off by the analytical study by Anna Maria Guasch, entitled “A new step in the genealogy of the abstract: the dynamic and the vital”, in which she analyses the cardinal importance of this text, which “represents the best link to understanding the passage from the figurative Oteiza to the abstract artist, and to understanding the passage from an objective to an applied aesthetic, and Oteiza’s later decision to bring his work as a sculptor to an end”, as the author of this study maintains.
